What is the Commonwealth Book Publishers Association? The Commonwealth Book Publishers Association (CBPA) was founded in May 2017 by independent book publishers from Australia, Canada, Ghana, Nigeria, Singapore and the United Kingdom to create a network of robust, financially secure Commonwealth publishers telling stories of their cultures and their countries. The aim of CBPA is to make Commonwealth publishers stronger and more competitive internationally, and to support the Commonwealth’s commitment to Freedom of Expression as set out in Clause 5 of the Commonwealth Charter: “We are committed to peaceful, open dialogue and the free flow of information, including through a free and responsible media, and to enhancing democratic traditions and strengthening democratic processes”. CBPA is an emerging association that focuses on forging links between publishing companies and between publishers and their respective governments. It provides a platform for sharing knowledge and expertise, for mentoring and capacity building and for contributing to the free flow of information among the 54 Commonwealth countries. |
